Card Readers are a pain to install…

…if you own an Antec Nine Hundred case. Seriously. I spent about an hour working out how the bloody thing goes in before realising that I had the plastic tray the wrong way round, lol.

So anyway, I finally got it in, and I would test it but dad has all the memory cards. :P

Odd thing though, I ordered a DVI cable for £9 from eBuyer, and it came via CityLink. Then I ordered this a few days later, which cost £13, and it came via Royal Mail. Both of them I chose the “5 day super saver shipping” option. Strange eh?

Oh, and I uploaded a few shots onto Flickr too, so check them out. :)

Also, take a look at this: I Can Has Cheezburger (with lolcats!)

  • Kosmic Tech, HDD, and a TomTom

Well, I decided to host crank’s blog again. To be honest, I could have done it a while ago, but I’ve sortof forgotten about my hosting until the bill came a few weeks ago. :D

I actually was on the very top plan with my host last year, hosting about 20 other websites for various people for free, which kinda wasn’t working out very well in terms of the cost. So, I decided to stop doing that. Anyway, I needed a bit of space for some backups of my PC in about January this year, so I upgraded again to the Super plan (4500MB space, 100GB bandwidth, for $30 USD per month). However, at the moment it’s kinda all going to waste, so I thought I’d host crank’s blog, as well as someone else who wanted a bit of space since their host was a bit dodgy (I think). I also let crank use my KosmicTech.com domain, since I’ve not been using it for much for about 6 months now. Even with my site and those two others, I’m still using less then half the plan I’ve got, so I might downgrade to ASO’s Medium or Large plan (see this page).

Onto the hard drive. I ripped it out of my old Xbox console (with the help of a Torx screwdriver off eBay), and stuck it into my PC. Vista sees it there, a 250GB Western Digital HDD, but it refuses to let me partition it. So, I’m not going to bother with finding a partition program that will work with Vista, I’m just gonna stick it on eBay. :D

I’ve got plans to put five more 500GB SATA2 HDDs into this PC anyway, so losing a 250GB PATA drive isn’t that bad. ;)

Finally, the TomTom. I’ve got a TomTom GO 910 (don’t ask why I have it), but I want to get the Logitech Z-5500 Digital speakers for my PC. So, to get those, I could easily sell my TomTom on eBay with a starting price of, say, £220 (most of them are £250+ anyway). However, the problem is that dad wants the TomTom, so he said he’d give me £200 for it. He also said he’d kill me and cancel the ADSL (haha, on an 18 month contract?) if I stuck it on eBay. The thing is though, why shouldn’t I? It’s mine, and I’d get more for it on eBay in the first place. So I’m wondering what to do.

Anyway, that’s about all that’s new in my life, and it’s bloody cold here today. It’s the first time this month that I’ve closed my window because of the cold. Oh, and the people at the end of the row of houses I lived in had a loud party last night, and they were ordering pizza at like 1am. LOL. The only thing is, I got annoyed because playing Justin Timberlake and Coldplay at a party makes it into a non-party. Idiots. Why not play something decent? Anyway, they finally shut up and sent their friends home at like 4am or so. They’ve probably got a hangover now. :D

    New Computer on Flickr

Enjoy! I shall post some more of the inside, and my DVDs and stuff soon.

I’m still looking for my Far Cry disc tho, I really want to play it on my new PC. :(

Update: I found Far Cry. It didn’t work. So I got the v1.3 patch, which works. Except it’s failed (so far) on two levels (it just freezes) and the sea looks all strange. So I might use my copy of Windows XP Corporate to play it (have to install that first though).

  • Yes, yes, yes!

Hurrah! BT finally connected the broadband on Monday. I started by hammering it with 5GB of downloads to my Xbox 360, then two episodes of Lost (boy, what an ending to episode 18, with them all being “dead”!) and two episodes of Heroes, and an episode of Hotel Babylon.  I must say it’s a hell of a fast line - 8Mbit compared to what I’ve had in Australia, 1.5Mbit (which was capped to 64k after 10GB anyway), is brilliant.

Secondly, the removal company dropped off all my stuff yesterday - I finally have all my CDs, DVDs, games, etc again, I’m just trying to think where I put Far Cry, because I want to load it onto my new rig. :D

The new PC: it arrived yesterday in kit form (obviously) - the case came on Monday because it was from a different warehouse, but the rest of the stuff came yesterday - the LCD came in a box, then I got another shipping-plastic-wrapped box with the graphics card in it, and finally a larger box with the motherboard, three sticks of RAM, DVD drive, hard drive, CPU, power supply, and keyboard. I put it altogether in my room (making it look like a huge mess :P ), and finally, pressed the power button. Nothing. Right, check the cable - wasn’t switched on at the wall. Turn on again…nothing. PSU switch was off. Third time lucky? Yep, POST screen came up (or rather, the nice Asus P5B Deluxe screen), all was good. So I grabbed the install disc for Vista, and, first time, it installed without a single issue…almost. I can sortof scan for wireless networks, but it refuses to connect.

I’ve actually got an ethernet cable going out my bedroom window and into the lounge window where the router is at the moment - bit ugly, but it’s gonna have to stay until the WiFi thing is fixed. :D

As for the performance, hell yeah. I can play avi files AND browse the web at the same time without a problem! And I can play HD clips, including the very demanding 1080p stuff - I’ve got the BBC’s Superstorm in 1080p - looked for a few minutes and it appears crystal clear, and supersmooth. Yay!

The sound is also pretty good - I’ve got it plugged into my existing Logitech X-530, and just listening to it on this, it’s fantastic (compared to the laptop speakers I’ve put up with for the past 2 years, lol). I can hear all sorts of new “bits” in the music that I’ve never heard before. O_o

I shall be posting photos of the new PC, my DVD+CD collection, and the TV/HiFi/home theatre system as soon as the stuff is all unpacked and setup and tidy. :)

And finally, something that has gone wrong/is annoying me: WLM is refusing to sign me in, as the Windows Live Support team are working on my account (I only want the country changed [their website keeps giving an error], and yet they’ve been at it since Monday night late GMT time). Very annoying. Odd thing is though, I can still use Meebo for some reason. Strange.
