I found this neat program today. It’s very similar to Last.fm, except instead of music, it tracks your programs that you use. It’s not essential, obviously, but it’s another one of those “nice to have” programs for useless stats. Take a look.

Well…that was interesting. I love the new titles, they’re really cool. However, I now have two questions.
1) Who is that guy that needs to break out?
2) Versailles 1989 V. Madrid?
Handy tip: Don’t try to run it on a Shared hosting account. I tried, and my account got suspended. Apperantly it chews up too many resources and I was breaking the server. Sorry ASO.
Okay, so recently, on #Fr3d, I was talking about getting a new Sony AV Reciever. And because of that, everyone starts to say “Sony suck”. I get it on other forums and sites too. I don’t actually get it.
Our TV is a Sony KDL-40W2000, 1080p HD, 40″ LCD. It’s a very good quality unit, it doesn’t feel weak or anything, and it produces stunning images, even in 1080i, from Sky HD. The only downside I’d say it has is the lack of inputs – it only has 2 HDMI inputs and 2 SCART inputs. However, other then that, it’s very good.
Our DVD recorder is a Sony unit. It’s slightly confusing when you first use it, however after a while (and a read of the manual) it starts to make sense. The only downside I find to this, is the menu system. It is a bit confusing.
Our amp and speakers are, again, Sony. They produce a pretty decent sound – they’re not uber-crystal-clear and absolutly perfect, and they are old (hence me wanting a new amp), however it’s still pretty decent. Plus they were free, since dad won them (along with an old RPTV we used to have, and a DVD player).
Now, almost everyone I meet say that Sony suck? WHY? I’ve yet to get a decent reply out of anyone with a valid reason as to why they “suck”. Everyone seems to think that stuff like Samsung is better. I’m not going to comment on that, because I’ve never owned a Samsung product. I personally don’t like them because of their gloss black finish on their TVs – it does seem a tad annoying when I see them in-store, as they’re reflective. However, I’m not going to say they suck because I’ve never used a Samsung product. However, I can safely say that LG suck. I’ve gone through three DVD burners from them and none of them lasted longer then a week. Plus dad’s had various issues with their USB drives, and them refusing to replace it.
So anyway, sure, Sony are expensive, I won’t deny that, but otherwise, if anyone can give me 5 valid reasons why they suck, I’ll give them a cookie. And it doesn’t count if you’ve never owned a product, because how can you tell that it sucks?
(And after all that, the funny thing is that everyone who’s said “Sony suck” owns a Sony Ericsson phone.)
Finally got it all built! It’s a sexy beast, unless you look inside, because my cable tidying skills suck.
It’s pretty damn good actually – it’s damn quiet, even with the stock AMD HSF, which feels really cheap, you can only hear it if there’s no sound. And considering I built it to watch movies on, that’s not a problem. I was going to get another HSF, but it looks like I won’t need that anymore.
Anyway, it plays 1080p stuff pretty well – I had a quick look at an IMAX documentary I have, and a few trailers, and it’s crystal clear and very smooth. I just have to sort out the HDMI cable and stuff (probably will need a switch thing for that, or I could make the DVD player use component, which I’ll probably do in the meantime). Anyway, so it plays 1080p stuff fine, but it failed quite badly on the 100Mbit bitrate 1080p QuickTime file I have, obviously. Even this PC can’t handle that very well unless nothing else is running. But anyway – it’s all setup and it owns.
The only problem so far is that the case is about 4mm too wide to fit in the IKEA TV bench thing that we have, so I’m going to have to sort that out somehow. Just typical, isn’t it?
I cannot belive this….for some extremely strange reason I managed to wake myself up today (with no alarm clock or other aid) at 6:15am. Now this is weird in the way that I usually get up at about 10am. Maybe it’s because the rest of the stuff for my HTPC is arriving today, which means I can build it? Hmm. Anyway…it’s weird being up now. lol. I’m listening to my favourite radio station as usual (Nova 93.7, via the internet because I cannot get it here in the UK for obvious reasons), and I’ve just had an idea – is there some kind of program, that, to help with the 8 hour time difference with Australia, can automatically record an MMS stream, and then give me the delayed one synced to my current time?
For example, right now it’s almost 7am here in the UK. However, it’s almost 2pm in Perth, Australia, so basically, I want some kind of thing to record this, and then play me back this stream from them (eg, at 2pm UK time, I’ll hear what’s on right now). Is that possible at all? I’m sure it is somehow…
Anyway, I’m going to go and have a big bowl of delicious chocolate cereal for breakfast. Then I might watch “Kinky Boots”, since I have nothing else to do and I recorded it a few days ago off Sky Movies HD because it got “good reviews” when it was at the cinema. Who knows, it might actually be good. Then again, a film about shoes? errr……
So, I usually idle in #gameservers at irc.gamesurge.net, however, some idiot came on and pretended to be staff (yeah right). Click on the link below to view the entire conversation.
